Johnny Depp expressed acidic remarks on actors using their influence in show business to sell their music during the Berlin premiere of his newest movie, Mordecai.

Speaking to a group of reporters, the award-winning actor said, "That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it's always just made me sick. The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalise on your work in other areas. But I hate the idea, 'Come see me play the guitar because you've seen me in 12 movies'. It shouldn't be [that way]. You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music."

The actor has been playing the guitar since. A report from The Hollywood Reporter enumerated some musical endearments that the Pirates of the Caribbean star has engaged in all these years including being an occasional guitarist of the English band Oasis.

He also holds a close friendship with Marilyn Manson and had participated in the band's November gig last year. He was also featured in the 2014 Showtime documentary Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued for rocking with the band The New Basement Tapes.

But despite everything, the actor said that he will never have a band on his own.  As cited in City Times, he said, "Music is still part of my life... but you won't be hearing 'The Johnny Depp Band'. That won't ever exist."

The actor, however, did not mention specific names as to who he is alluding to.

The Guardian, on the other hand, has provided examples of celebrities who ventured a musical career including Juliette Lewis with her band Juliette and the Licks, Scarlett Johansson who sang in the Anywhere I Lay My album (a collaboration of musicians including David Bowie and Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Jared Leto's Thirty Seconds to Mars among others.

Johnny Depp will be playing the role of Charlie Mortdecai, an opportunistic art dealer who participated in the competition to recover a stolen painting. The movie is based on the comedy trilogy novel Mordecai published in the 1970s.

Mortdecai is directed by David Koepp and will also feature stars like Paul Bettany, Jeff Goldblum and Olivia Munn.
