Dynasty Warriors, the award-winning tactical action game, is getting a ninth installment and a new announce trailer has been released online.

Though the Dynasty Warriors 9 trailer doesn't really reveal much for the game, it does tease some new locations as well as new characters.

Some people unfamiliar with the franchise will also be confused as the teaser clearly has an "8" in the title, but a lot of news is saying that it's the ninth Dynasty Warriors game. This is because the first Dynasty Warriors game, Sangokumuso (the Japanese title), was a fighting game which is a different genre from the rest of the franchise. Shin Sangokumuso was the official start of the genre that got more popular, but the English translation immediately branded it as Dynasty Warriors 2. So from that point on, every new Dynasty Warriors game has been a number ahead in the English title compared to the Japanese title.

Though not much has been revealed about the upcoming game, some speculate that, in addition to new characters, this game will also have an open-world exploration. That being said, it may be the closest fans can get to having a Skyrim game overhauled with an medieval Asian theme.

The latest iteration of the game, Dynasty Warriors 8, has seen several releases for different platforms from 2013-2015. Though initially focused on 1v1 experiences, the game has evolved to have one character go up against hordes of enemy soldiers.

Not much is known about Dynasty Warriors 9, but there is no doubt that a lot of people are excited to see more installments from the franchise. Since the franchise was launched in 1997, Dynasty Warriors has grown to have a solid fanbase with numerous spin-offs that crossover to other franchises like Dynasty Tactics, Samurai Warriors, and Dynasty Warriors: Gundam.

No official release date has been announced for Dynasty Warriors 9, but some expect more information to come out as 2017 rolls by.
