While fans are waiting for January 13, 2017 for a new episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 8 fans are making themselves busy from decrypting clues on what will happen in the series finale. So far, clues are leading to the return of the fan-favorite antagonist Kai in the season finale.

Kai was decapitated by Damon Salvatore after he woke up and transitioned into a witch-vampire hybrid in the season six finale episode "I'm Thinking of You All The While". Now, fans are making speculations after Chris Wood, the actor who portrayed Kai, was seen in a photo with Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore.

In the photo posted on Instagram last December 9, they work both seen in one photo with Wesley's girlfriend Phoebe Tonkin with the caption "Our son Chris." With that caption, fans of "The Vampire Diaries" were intrigued.

Did Wood take a break from his latest CW superhero series Supergirl to return as Kai in the final episode of The Vampire Diaries series?

In addition to the Instagram post, Wood posted more tweets on Twitter that seems cryptic. When a fan asked there would be more Kai on the small screen, he responded in a way that made fans become more excited and skeptic at the same time. In the response, he said that Kai is still trying to get out from hell. Whoa there.

The Vampire Diaries series creator Julie Plec is notable for bringing back dead characters to life in her own interesting ways. Resurrection has always been a part of The Vampire Diaries story, with some of the characters resurrecting their family, friends, and lovers.

Wood also confirmed that he had a change of shooting schedule. Fans believe that he is talking about his work in Supergirl. If this is true, there could be additional workload for him. The Vampire Diaries season 8 will go back from its holiday hiatius on January 13. The series will bid its goodbye on March 10, 2017.
