With Sony recently revealing the sequel of “Last of Us” at the 2016 PlayStation Experience, a trailer was also revealed. The game that has been officially named “Last of Us: Part 2” is what fans have been waiting for in years.

With just the trailer released, fans somehow have already speculated a lot of theories. Picking up on the smallest unnoticeable detail in the short gloomy teaser, while some fans have concluded one theory that might just be a major plot twist if it is true. According to some fans, Joel is actually dead.

Yes, they have assumed that Joel, the playable protagonist of “Last of Us” is actually dead and is a fleeting hallucination of the teenager Ellie. The fans who have procured this concept said that Joel was rather ghastly when he suddenly appeared in the trailer. And they also pointed out that it seemed like Ellie was out on a rampage killing people and Joel was nowhere in sight during these events.

This further leads to the theory that Ellie is driven to kill the murderers of Joel. Based on the ending of “Last of Us”, if the theory is indeed right then Joel must have been killed by the Fireflies. This theory has divided fans as a huge majority has opposed the said theory.

Some fans are probably reading into this too much. They probably missed out one Naughty Dog Easter egg in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” teasing the sequel of “Last of Us”. In that poster, a masked girl who clearly resembles Ellie is seen standing and very pregnant. Now, there’s no knowing if that was a hint or the developer was just putting on a show. With Ellie matured and years have passed, could it be that the source of her anger is because of something else precious she lost?

With all these questions, fans are probably are in for more mind-blowing stories as it has been announced that one of the writers of the “Westworld” series has just signed up for the game. This could mean a more dark and dramatic plot. Neil Druckmann has confirmed that Halley Gross is aboard the development of the video game. Druckmann even said that he can’t wait to give out spoilers since the story for "Last of Us: Part 2" is going to be intense.
