MAC Selena, the makeup collection by MAC Cosmetics inspired by the late singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez sold out online within moments on the first day of its launch.

MAC reassured fans with a message on Instagram saying that the collection would be back in the store.

"Due to the passion and overwhelming excitement from Selena's fans, currently #MACSelena is sold out on Maccosmetics.com. We are working to restock the collection," said MAC cosmetics in a written statement.

Selena Quintanilla-Perez, also known as "Queen of Tejano," was a beloved singer, who was shot and killed by her fan club's president, Yolanda Saldívar in 1995. Twenty-one years after the event, MAC launched a new range of makeup with an event at her hometown, Corpus Christi, Texas.

The global launch event attracted several hundred and was attended by Selena Quintanilla Perez's family who thanked the fans for keeping sher legacy alive.

"It's been 21 years since Selena has been gone, but she is still very much alive in each and every one of you guys, and for that, I am forever grateful," Selena's older sister,  Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, said, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

The vast makeup line comprises lipsticks, eye shadows, lip gloss, liquid eyeliner, mascara, powder and blushes created in honor of her name. The packaging comes in purple which was Selena's signature color. Suzette had helped curate the special collection.

"I pulled out all of her makeup, everything she wore on and off stage. And MAC matched the colors to the line. This line is all her," Suzette said recently about the year-long collaboration.

The Selena makeup line is the result of an online petition that had over 40,000 supporters urging MAC Cosmetics to develop a collection commemorating Selena.

MAC has announced that the collection would be available in other online stores including Bloomingdales.com, Macys.com, Nordstrom.com later this week. The collection would also be available in selected stores in U.S. and Canada.

MAC will be launching the range of products internationally sometime later in this month.
