Facebook News: Mark Zuckerberg launches Investigation into Anti-Conservative Bias
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has now responded to all accusations regarding the company's "trending" topics list were ultimately suppressing conservative media stating that the company would be conducting an internal investigation.
He also added "No evidence of alleged manipulation had been found but if we find anything against our principles, you have my commitment that we will take additional steps to address it," Zuckerberg wrote on his profile. This news was first out when a former Facebook employee revealed that articles from politically conservative outlets particularly when written about conservative subjects were deliberately erased from Facebook's sidebar of popular stories or simply "trending topics".
The social media giant owner however had denied about all in spite of realistic claims. Facebook said the popularity of news stories were determined by an algorithm which depended upon user actions which were then later audited but never manipulated by review team members to confirm that the topics were in fact trending news stories. However, the report that we spoke about above alleged that when they had spoken to their former employees, it was further revealed that the topic would only trend if it was picked up enough by mainstream websites like the NYT, BBC or even CNN.
It was further reported that workers were told to generate stories that deemed as 'important by management' in the trending news section even if it did not generate the amount of attraction it had to generate. This further lead to a fierce debate all over the US media and also the social media platform itself which houses around 1.7th of the world population on its site. In his post, Zuckerberg also mentioned that he has now pans to invite "leading conservatives and people from across the political spectrum" to talk with him about accusations of political bias at Facebook.
