Open world games are a treat and their small add-ons are always something to cherish. However, the latest addition, inviting you to come back to the commonwealth so that you can redesign your cool robot would have made more sense five months ago.

In case of Fallout 4, it is more strange as Automatron is the game's first DLC because the game's companion mechanics can be quite tricky. While your AI companions can be great to have around but they can just as easily get you killed by setting off mines or can block your doorways, get stuck in the environment, etc.

Automatron begins just the same way as many expansions do. You get intrigued by a mysterious radio signal only to tune into it and the next thing you know you are investigating a quest marker that appears on your map. Soon you meet Ada, the friendly Assaultron, who is asking for your help to track down those who massacred its roving caravan. This is where your DLC begins proper and Ada becomes your new companion.

The most exciting part of it all is the ability to customize your robot. You bring your junk to use and also utilize loot collected from fallen robots to redesign your buddy. You can either modify its look from the scratch or alter it as per your liking. It is really amazing to see all the options you have to play around with. Bethesda did a fine job in Fallout 4 with their crafting options. There are so many things that you can do with your robots that it is almost just as fun as the game itself.

With Automatron, you can add some value to your forthcoming expansion, Far Harbor, which opens up an all new world to get invested in. This is where your customized robot will be put to better use.
