Brad Pitt has six children, but he considered fathering one long ago. Melissa Etheridge, a good friend of Pitt, knew that he wanted to donate his sperm. She asked him to do it so that she and her then-partner, Julie Cypher, could bring up a child. However, she did not want the biological father to be part of the child's parenting, so she turned his offer down.

Etheridge and Cypher had two children---Bailey born in 1997 and Beckett, who followed a year later. However, they kept the father a secret until 2000, when it was disclosed that David Crosby of Crosby, Stills and Nash was the sperm donor.

As Crosby had children even then, Etheridge's considered that the rocker would be a better choice than Hollywood's rising star, Pitt.

"Well actually, [Pitt] was such a good friend of mine. And we did consider it," the 54-year-old singer said. "And yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, 'I don't want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don't need another parent - they have two."

She continued, "It's one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect - because they (already) had children. They were looking to do this as a gift. And my children are lovely and gorgeous anyway."

The joke of the children is that in their teens they mention that they would have actually liked Brad Pitt as their father! "I could have had Brad Pitt (as my dad)!" The reason too is made clear: "I could've been amazingly handsome."

Crosby's wife, Jan Dance, asked her husband to be the donor even as they vacationed in Hawaii. Etheridge and Cypher came out with a public statement some time later, but finally, they broke up in 2001.

Brad Pitt officially adopted Angelina Jolie's two adopted children, son Maddox and daughter Zahara in 2005. While they got their first child together, Shiloh in 2006, and adopted their fourth one, Pax, in 2008, they got their twins, son Knox and daughter Vivienne together.
