There's a new Battlefield 1 update and with it comes a new weapon, a new map, and a whole lot of tweaks to the weapon and item balance of the game.

Yesterday, DICE rolled out a new patch for Battlefield 1, a patch with a new map, Giant's Shadow. Giant's Shadow is the very first of the free DLC maps that DICE plans to offer and with it comes the grenade-crossbow, an interesting weapon that keeps true to its name by launching grenades further than gamers can regularly throw.

The patch notes for the new Battlefield 1 update also reveals a few of the other tweaks that DICE is bringing to the World War 1 first-person shooter, including the details on the highly anticipated Spectator Mode.

Just as its name suggests, gamers can observe different battles in the game as a spectator, switching between third-person and first-person camera views of all the different players right on the battlefield. With Spectator, gamers can tweak even more settings and choose to view the battlefield through the regular angle of Player View, the overhead battlefield angle of Table Top mode, and the more sinuous view of the Free Cam mode.

Dice has also made tweaks to the Custom Game setting of Battlefield 1, adding in a new option called the Standard Issue Rifles. Soldier movement has been tweaked, as well as Aim assist which now requires gamers to actively give aim so that they can receive aim assistance from the game. The videogame developer has also tweaked the game to fix gamers' spawning issues during vehicle deployment.

While the Battlefield 1 update has already been released, only those who had originally preordered the game and those who have a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass can get an early start on the new map as well as the new grenade crossbow launcher. Everyone else will have to wait till Dec. 20 next week to get be able to play on Battlefield 1 Giant's Shadow.
