Adoption rate of iOS 8 has risen to 68 percent, while 29 percent iOS devices still run on iOS 7 operating system, according to the latest figures, revealed by Apple on the official App Store Distribution page. Surprisingly, four percent of Apple devices are still running the older versions of iOS.

The 68 percent rise is a 4% increase from the last figure revealed on December 22 last year. The increase in adoption rate can be credited to new Apple devices such as iPad, iPhone, iPod, sold in the holiday season.

iOS 8 was released on September 17 last year, available for iPhone 4S, 5, 5s, 5c, iPad 2, third-gen iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display. The new operating system was launched prior to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The adoption rate is calculated by Apple based on versions devices accessing App Store.

The new operating system upgrade by Apple was not well received by users as they faced issues with battery life, and Wi-Fi. The problems were fixed in the subsequent updates by Apple.

Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have had an outstanding holiday season. According to reports, this holiday season, 51.3 percent of new devices activations were Apple devices.

Apple will be releasing the earnings report on January 27th and we are expecting another record-breaking quarter.
