"Reign" Season 4 has been confirmed to be the franchise's last. Reportedly, the CW series received an early cancellation of the fifth season just before the production of Season 4 wraps up. This could apparently give producers and writers more time to create a better conclusion to the story of Mary, Queen of Scots.

It can be noted that there are TV shows that just got canceled without resolving loose ends in the storyline. "Reign" will hopefully not be one of them as the team behind the series could get enough time to work on the season finale. It is likely that given the ample time to prepare, "Reign" Season 4 would have a satisfying ending with no loose ends.

As per a report from Cinema Blend, the finale of "Reign" Season 4 may honor Mary and would just end during an earlier time in history before her death. In the books, the Queen of Scots died at the age of 44 when she was beheaded. The report claimed that it is more likely that the TV adaptation of Mary's story will conclude with a happy ending just before her execution.

But why did The CW refuse to renew the historical fantasy show? A report from Variety revealed that Reign's ratings have not hit powerhouse from the moment it premiered. Based on the record from the report, the highest number of viewers that the show gathered was during its first season with 2 million.

Meanwhile, "Reign" has been fairly constant with its ratings as pointed out by Hollywood Reporter. However, it seems that the network had finally given up on the series after airing it for three seasons. Nevertheless, the cancellation of Season 5 of "Reign" could make fans more excited for the final season which may also cause its ratings to boost.

"Reign" Season 4 is expected to have 16 episodes in it. The final season is slated to air on Feb. 10, 2017 at 9 p.m. on The CW. In the meantime, check out a clip of "Reign" TV series below.
