Last year, Selena Gomez was proclaimed Instagram's top star. Now, she remains the reigning darling after Instagram has unveiled the most popular celebrity for 2016. The 'Kill Em with Kindness' singer and superstar doubled her title just after a year.

As reported a few months ago, Selena Gomez has been diagnosed with Lupus. Known to be a chronic, autoimmune disease, Selena Gomez's health condition is in mayhem especially that her disease includes side effects such as anxiety, depression and panic attacks.

Other than that, her emotional instability made her take some time off from the public eye, disconnecting for a while as she was receiving treatments. However, Selena Gomez had a surprise comeback last month in American Music Awards event and had her emotional acceptance speech, where she encouraged her fans to always be true to their feelings.

Despite her struggles, she still managed to reach the peak of Instagram stardom. Selena outdid other female superstars by having 103 million followers which substantially is a big number and could possibly still make her retain her title next year, making it a grand slam, reports Cnet.

Next on the list of Instagram's most popular celebrities, is Taylor swift (93.6 million), one of Selena Gomez's closest friends. Followed by Beyonce (88.9 million), Kylie (79.5 million) and Kendall Jenner (68.9 million). The only men among the top 10 who made it to the list were Cristiano Ronaldo (82.3 million) and Dwayne Johnson (71 million).

According to Philly, in terms of photo and video likes, Selena Gomez had 8 photos and 7 videos that were included in 10 most popular celebrity photos and videos, respectively. Two of the most popular was a Coca-Cola ad that gained 5.2 million likes and a video of her enjoying a sing and dance with a super cute fan reaching just about 20.1 million views.
