World-renowned theoretical physicist Professor Stephen Hawking issued a warning through an advert that at this very moment, "humanity faces a challenge and millions of lives are in danger due to obesity and its complications." He considers obesity as one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century.

In the 60-second advert for GEN-PEP, Prof. Stephen Hawking says that the people of today eat too much and move too little. The children and young adults of today are said to be less fit and less physically active than what their parents were, just a generation ago. "How being sedentary has become a major health problem is beyond my understanding," says Hawking.

Although having less physical activity and eating unhealthily may sound less alarming at first, the fact is this health issue has risen to epidemic proportions. Reports from medical studies have ranked physical inactivity as the fourth leading cause of death in the world.

There are already well-supported reports that point to physical inactivity as one of the factors that can lead to acquiring cancer, heart diseases, muscle disorders, diabetes, and mental illness.

However, Stephen Hawking suggests easy solution to this problem and is not difficult at all. According to University Herald, scientists are suggesting to implement policies that will control or curb the alarming global increase in body weight. There should be a conscious effort from both parents and children to include adequate physical activity and practice a healthy, low-fat diet.

Stephen Hawking recommends that parents must support and encourage their children to have at least an hour of physical activity every day. Adults, on the other hand, must have at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

GEN-PEP is a non-profit organization working to engage organizations and people around the world to a joint effort to make the young people of today aware and learned when it comes to living a healthy life.
