Netflix’s ultra-hit political television series “House of Cards” going into its fifth season, rumors about where the show is heading are spreading like wildfire. The two biggest speculations now are that Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) will meet his end and the new season will be inspired by the recently concluded Trump versus Clinton election.

According to Yibada, “House of Cards” Season 5 will see the demise of Frank Underwood while his wife, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) will rise to be more powerful. One of the clues for this theory was that in Season 4 of “House of Cards”, Claire had started to break the fourth wall, something which only Frank’s character had been able to do up until then. This is seen as a clear indication of Claire’s character receiving more development, perhaps even replacing Frank’s role as the lead character.

Known for its original plots which do not always follow the book to the tee, there are whispers that the recent United States presidential election will heavily impact the story for “House of Cards” Season 5. Jobs & Hire believes that there will be two new characters in the upcoming season which will be based on Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton respectively. However, there is a debate as to whether these characters will be never-seen-before roles in the show or will the progress of current characters be influenced by the real-life politicians instead.

Although Netflix has not officially released a date for the premiere of “House of Cards” Season 5, it would seem like it would air sooner rather than later to take advantage of the latest presidential election in the United States. iTech Post certainly thinks that way and speculates that the next season will air even as early as in March 2017.

“House of Cards” Season 5 will air in 2017 or 2018, on Netflix.
