Anime Director Legend Hayao Miyazaki Comes Out of Retirement to Create a New Film

It seems that the anime director legend Hayao Miyazaki has come out of retirement!

You read that right! The legendary Hayao Miyazaki has come out of his retirement to make way for one last anime film. According to Kotaku and Anime News Network, Miyazaki has been working on a short CG  titled "Kemushi no Boro" (Boro the Caterpillar). The short CG is a planned animation short for the Ghibli Museum.

Miyazaki revealed in the NHK special 'Owaranai Hito Miyazaki' (The Man Who Is Not Done: Hayao Miyazaki) that Miyazaki was not done in the industry. Dissatisfied with the outcome, Miyazaki said he wants to turn it into a full-length film. The NHK special showed that Miyazaki is already working on the animation of the film despite not being given the green-light for it. Miyazaki plans on releasing Kemushi no Boro before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki said that Miyazaki would draw storyboards while a staff predicted that the movie would be a huge hit.

Kemushi no Boro is a short animation about a "tiny hairy caterpillar, so tiny that it may be easily squished between your fingers."The 12-minute animated short will be feature sometime in the future and will be screened exclusively at the Ghibli Museum.

Hayao Miyazaki is famous for his works on Lupin III, Future Boy Conan and Sherlock Hound. In 1979, he directed Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, which became the first film he ever directed. He and his fellow director Isao Takahata formed Studio Ghibli in 1985.

While in Ghibli, Miyazaki has worked on several popular films such as Laputa: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro. Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo and The Wind Rises. Miyazaki retired in 2013 but still continued to produce shorts for Studio Ghibli.
