Sean Maguire’s return was not just a whim, but a planned move by the producers. Inquisitr shares some of Sean’s statements on the matter. He Says that during negotiations on his return he said that he himself, from the point of a viewer of the series, will not feel satisfied if his return was in flashbacks, but the producers claimed that is not what they had in mind.

The actor himself had no idea what the whole extent of the story arc would be, but the little piece of introduction they gave him was more than enough to spark an interest in him and give the fans an opportunity for some real closure on the story of Robin Hood in “Once Upon A Time”.
