"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will truly be the last installment of the popular CW series. There are a lot of speculations on whether Nina Dobrev will reprise her role as Elena Gilbert for the last hurrah of the show.

It was previously reported that CW boss Mark Pedowitz has confirmed that Nina Dobrev is already in talks for her return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. Pedowitz admitted that the team would love to have the "Final Girls" star back in the show.

"TVD" co-creator Kevin Williamson noted that "things are final now." He also teased fans about "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 finale on who will end up with whom.

Speaking to EW, showrunner Julie Plec admitted that the writers are continuing to keep an open mind about the show's ending. "I don't know that you could talk to a single series creator that would say confidently 'Where I started is where I finished and there was no way in hell I was going to stray from that path,'" she said.

Williamson agrees with the sentiment, saying that the writers have to be open to change and keep an open mind. This is especially when there is a big possibility that the next idea may be the best one.

According to CDL, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 could feature a massive romantic reunion for two major characters in the show. However, it's not going to be Damon and Elena.

The publication noted that Elena Gilbert may reunite with Stefan Salvatore. As a result, this reunion could pave the way for a Caroline (Candice King) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) reunion.

Apparently, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 would see Damon turn dark and push Elena away when she returns to Mystic Falls. The brokenhearted damsel would then seek comfort from Stefan, who was her first love.

Julie Plec has admitted that she wants the fans to be "crying and laughing and cheering" during the finale. She wants them to feel as if "TVD" season 8 delivered a happy ending even if the plot does not end happily at all.
