"Metal Gear Solid" creator Hideo Kojima took it to the stage at this year's Tokyo Game Show to unveil new details regarding his newest game, the Norman Reedus starrer "Death Stranding."

While there is an apparent amount of scarcity on the details of the story, Kojima has mentioned that he took inspiration from whales and dolphins who tend to get stranded on beaches.

"Whales and dolphins sometimes conduct mass strandings. If they live it's live stranding, if they're dead, it's death stranding," mused Kojima, who explained the idea behind the title.

He has also hinted an extraterrestrial theme with the game, commenting "This title refers to something from another world, stranded in our world."

In addition, Kojima has revealed that the game will be featuring an open-world gameplay, allowing the player to explore freely. Furthermore, he has also added that co-op will be included in the game, as he aims to squeeze in interaction as the player moves on.

Kojima has also added that his team finally decided on a suitable engine for "Death Stranding," which will give them the ability to start working on the game in earnest. 4K and HDR are options they are also open to accommodate.

"We want to prove that indie studios can produce AAA world class masterpieces", said Kojima.
