Fans have been clamoring for a live-action adaptation of the beloved manga/anime hit "Fullmetal Alchemist" for so long, and it would seem like they wouldn't need to wait much longer.

According to the official Twitter account of the film, the team has officially wrapped up the filming phase of the project. While the said phase only lasted for three months, we need not to wait for long as the much-anticipated adaptation is set to hit Japanese theaters come winter of 2017.

In recollection, the project was officially announced via Twitter a few months ago, and has received attention from both the fans and the media. However, there is an ample mount of criticism driven across the production's casting choices, with the most common feedback pointing to their ethnicism as Japanese actors.

The movie will be distributed by Warner Bros Pictures, and Fumihiko Sori has been tapped to helm the film. His filmography included the flicks "Ping Pong," "Tomorrow's Joe," and "Dragon Age: Dawn of The Seeker." Former Hey! Say! JUMP member Ryosuke Yamada will be headlining the film as titular character Edward Elric, alongside Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell and Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang.

Based from the manga/anime franchise of the same name, "Fullmetal Alchemist" chronicles the adventures of alchemist brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric. After the death of their mother, the twins decide to utilize the power of alchemy to revive her. However, the procedure ends horribly, resulting in the loss of Edward's left leg and the destruction of Alphonse's physical body. The former then sacrifices his right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor, retaining his life in the process. The tragic event galvanized Edward to become a state alchemist, and has gained fame as the "Fullmetal Alchemist," due to his use of automail limbs.

The manga has spanned two anime series, as well as two animated films, all of which received critical acclaim from various media outlets.
