Razer Announces New Gaming Keyboard

Along with some new laptops and other gaming peripherals, Razer released a new gaming keyboard at PAX West with some pretty cool features, according to The Iris. The new keyboard, called Ornata, has been dubbed by The Verge as "the clickiest keyboard known to man".

People usually have to choose between the two types of keyboards. A mechanical keyboard is prized for its tactile feedback and fast typing. On the other hand, are more comfortable to type in for longer periods of time due to the squishy rubber underneath the keys.

Gamers can experience the best of both worlds with the Ornata. Its keys use a hybrid technology developed by Razer, called "Mecha-Membrane". This technology combines the elements of a mechanical and a membrane type keyboard.

PC Gamer reports that according to Razer co-founder and CEO, Min-Liang Tan, the Ornata's Mecha-Membrane was the result of years of research.

"When we moved to our own Razer Mechanical Switches in our production lines, we were excited to learn from real-use scenarios and apply that knowledge to perfect other technologies.", says Tan. "The Razer Ornata is a great example of how our engineers can use feedback to innovate something truly amazing for gamers, in this case a solution that melds two seemingly disparate keyboard technologies for a phenomenal experience."

Besides the Mecha-Membrane, the Ornata also has mid-height caps and a detachable ergonomic wrist rest, reports Yibada. The Razer Synapse feature is enabled as well, and the Ornata has anti-ghosting capabilities for 10 key presses.

There are two versions of the keyboard: The Razer Ornata, and the Razer Ornata Chroma. According to Slashgear, the Ornata Chroma also comes with individually backlit keys, from Razer's Chroma technology.

The lighting can be synced across devices, customized with a color range of 1.68 million, and comes with different lighting effects. Lighting settings and profiles can also be assigned to different games.
