The second season of 'Supergirl' has got its Superman in the form of Tyler Hoechlin. The former 'Teen Wolf' actor has been roped in to play the role of Supergirl's cousin.

This has been confirmed by executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. He said that he and Greg Berlanti had always wanted to work with Tyler and therefore, picking up Hoechlin for the role was not at all a foreign notion for them. He added that the deal worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. He also said that they are thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of the iconic character.

As for Hoechlin, the actor is equally thrilled but he has also made it clear that he won't be comparing himself with others who have played the character. He said that he never tries to compare and contrast performances. Emphasizing that Superman is an iconic character, he said that he will just carry on the tradition of playing the part, like others have.

Notably, the actor will not just be playing Supergirl's cousin, he will also play his alter ego Clark Kent. Till now, audiences had only seen glimpses of the superhero which included scenes where Kara would communicate with Clark through instant messaging, but now they will see him actually.

Tyler is also looking forward to playing Clark. He said that the big superheroics may not be the most enjoyable part of the whole experience. According to him, the real fun is going to be finding where Clark lives and he is just excited to find out his sense of humor.

It is worth mentioning here that by being signed in to play Superman, Tyler Hoechlin has joined the esteemed ranks of actors like Tom Welling, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh and Dean Cain.

All of them have played the superhero with élan. And now that 'Supergirl' is giving a new actor such a golden chance, it would be interesting to watch how he handles it. But, more exciting would be to see the touch he brings to Clark's sense of humor.
