In less than a month since the theatrical release of Marvel Universe's Captain America Civil War with Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, and the rest of the Avengers gang, the movie shows no sign of abating. During the premiere, it became an instant blockbuster and with the recent figures coming in, the superhero smash has now officially breached the $1 billion profit mark.

According to a report by Screen Rush, the Civil War now tops the US domestic and international markets in terms of the total proceeds earned making it the largest film to hit the theaters worldwide this year. The latest Captain America title is also the fourth Marvel film to achieve the blockbuster milestone within 24 days of its release.

Directed by Russo brothers, the movie follows The Avengers ($1.51 billion), Age of Ultron ($1.41 billion) and Iron Man 3 ($1.22 billion) in surpassing the $1-billion mark in the Marvel cinematic universe (MCU), The Hollywood Reporter stated.

In terms of domestic cinema performance, the latest Marvel superhero movie currently rakes in $322.9 million compared to Batman vs. Superman with $328.4 million. Both movies, however, are still trailing behind Deadpool which earned about $362.6 million.

Meanwhile, Marvel seems catching up lately in terms the number of movies able to break the billion-dollar challenge. Of all the 25 movies that managed to earn more than a billion dollars, ten belonged to Disney. So if Movie News Guide statistics hold any weight, then the third Captain America title has surpassed Disney's Zootopia on the blockbuster charts. The latest Disney titled raked in $972.1 million.

Meanwhile, the forthcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, another title from Marvel cinematic universe, is expected to break blockbuster records. With each Marvel superhero mash released, the level of expectation is raised a little higher. The latest X-Men installment shouldn't come any less exciting than Captain America: Civil War.
