"Descendants of the Sun" is undoubtedly one of the most popular shows out there. The lead actors, Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo, are also fan favorites since the TV series aired for the first time. Rumor has it that the season 2 of "Descendants of the Sun" is coming soon but the lead actors, Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, will not be a part of it.

Many fans were ecstatic when the second season of "Descendants of the Sun" was confirmed. KBS Drama Department president, Jung So-Ho, confirmed that the season 2 will likely come in 2017.

"We want to repay viewers with the next Descendants of the Sun," the "Descendants of the Sun" creator Jung So-ho said. "We are grateful to viewers, overseas fans, staff, and actors."

"The drama was more than a domestic syndrome; it established a third wave of Hallyu. KBS will strive to produce a second Descendants of the Sun to meet expectations and repay viewers," Jung So-ho added on. "We plan to launch a 2017 Descendants of the Sun project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team."

However, even though the show has been confirmed, many followers of "DOTS" are not very happy as the next season will not be a sequel to the first one.

That said, rumors about Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-Kyo not returning to the upcoming "Descendants of the Sun" season 2, have gone viral on the internet. This has left many fans devastated as the show writer, Kim Won Suk, confirmed that he is not sure whether or not the previous protagonists will make it into the lead cast.

Kim Won Suk also confirmed that there is a huge possibility of the second season not being a sequel to the previous season. Season 2 might be a completely different story.
