According to sources, the third season of the popular is all set to be delayed to lack of content that could contribute as the show's source material. The publication also says that the delay in series' next season is a good opportunity for the writers and creators to rewrite certain scenes from season 2 that deviated from manga's original story.

The reports suggest that the manga iteration of "Tokyo Ghoul" is ahead of the anime series by a few chapters. The anime series will not be catch up with the production team continues with season 3 of the show. As a result, the production team has to make original content for the manga series so that the viewers have something new to see.

If the show continues to follow this path, it is possible that some viewers may react unfavorably or even criticize the series, since it will not be based on original source material.

Meanwhile, there is an online petition for "Tokyo Ghoul" requesting the makers to remake the series. The publication says that the season 3 delay news has left plenty of fans disappointed, which led to the petition asking for a reboot. Some fans even went all the way to the show's Wikia page so that the producers can be made aware of their wishes and thoughts about the series.

So far, no news or comment has been released by Studio Pierrot and FUNanimation. However, as far as the rumor is concerned, season 3 is set to premier in 2017.
