When Real Madrid paid a world record fee, thought to be £100 million, for Gareth Bale in 2013, it was thought that it was not the most prudent of deals but it turned out to be a shrewd investment as the Welshman helped the club win their much coveted 10th UEFA Champions League title in his very first season. However, he failed to help the club win a La Liga title during his tenure thus far, but things are looking up for the Welshman as he returned his best goals tally in the La Liga and are helping the Spanish giants stage an unlikely comeback in the league as it nears a thrilling finale.

Last season Gareth Bale scored 13 league goals for Real Madrid as they failed to win the league and scored 15 goals in the previous to that. On Saturday, he found the back of the net once as Real Madrid ran riot away to Getafe to win 1-5 and Bale's return in the La Liga this season reached 16 goals. Bale is regarded as the natural successor to Cristiano Ronaldo if and when the Portuguese star decides to leave the Bernabau. During Rafa Benitez's time as manager this season, Bale often played centrally that provided further credence to the fact that the former Tottenham Hotspur star is the player who is going to be the show stopper at the Santiago Bernabau stadium for many years to come.

Real Madrid is currently trailing leaders Barcelona by a point and considering the fact that the Catalans have now lost three leaue games on the trot, they would be looking to take advantage of any more slip ups by winning all their remaining five games. Cross town rivals Atletico Madrid are on equal points as Barcelona but are placed second due to inferior goal difference. Gareth Bale, along with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo are vaital for this final leg of the La Liga campaign if Real are to entertain any thoughts of winning the thing. The club are still in contention for the UEFA Champions League and will be facing English club Manchester CIty in the semi finals.
