Barcelona in Complete Meltdown as They Lose 3rd La Liga Game in a Row

Till a few weeks ago, Barcelona were sitting pretty 9 points clear at the top of the La Liga table and were favourites to wrap up the league title with a few games to spare, however following their 3rd successive defeat they now face the possibility of an open title race where anything could happen. On Sunday night, Barcelona lost 2-1 at home to previously relegation threatened Valencia and went level on points with Atletico Madrid with 5 games still to play. Barcelona went 2-0 behind the visitors and even though their star striker Lionel Messi pulled one back to get to his tally of 500 career goals, the visitors could not get the all important equaliser that could have reduced the damage somewhat.

Barcelona has been in a downward spiral ever since losing the El Clasico to Real Madrid a couple of weeks back and that defeat was followed by defeats to Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid; the latter knocking them out of the UEFA Champions League. For a large part of the season, Barcelona's attacking trident comprising of Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior and Luis Suarez had looked unstoppable as they kept notching up an eye watering tally of goals on a weekly basis but it seems that the team has gown down a few gears at the business end of the season and the team often looks bereft of ideas when the going gets tough.

In the game against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, Barcelona could hardly get out of their own half for the majority of the game and their attacking trio looked largely ineffective as they failed to reach the semi finals of Europe's premier club competition. However, it looked like they will walk the La Liga but after three successive defeats, which equals their worst run since 2003, it seems that the Catalan giants would really need to raise their game for the rest of the season if they are to win the league title. Barcelona travel to Deportivo la Coruna on the 20th of April for their next La Liga game and it has become a must win game for the club if they are to entertain any thoughts of winning the league this season.
