Now look at what sex does for you. It makes your blood race, your skin sweat and your breathing become fast. But then, so does visiting the gym. Can you replace exercising with sex?

About 21 Canadian couples were studied  between 2012 to 2013 by experts from the Université du Québec à Montréal, who wanted to find out how many calories got burnt during sex. The couples were first told to work out on the treadmill to take an endurance test. They were then asked to undergo sex at least once a week for a month. They had to wear a SenseWear armband in order to find out how much energy got expended through both activities.

The amazing news is that men burn just four calories per minute of sex, while women burn three per minute. A workout of "moderate intensity" for 25 minutes can burn 75 to 100 calories. However, the actual sex act does not last beyond two to four minutes.

Sex does prove to be a better fat burner than TV and makes life more interesting than browsing channels. The other pluses are "lowering blood pressure, blocking pain, boosting immunity, preventing prostate cancer and improving bladder control in women."

Still, sex is no substitute for exercise.

"Sex should not replace regular exercise," study author Antony D. Karelis said. "Rather, sex and exercise should both be incorporated into your routine on a regular basis. Studies show that each improves health, so the combination of the two leads to a greater quality of life."
