Kate Middleton is drawing a lot of flak for breaking a tradition that has been followed for over a century by the royal family. Duchess of Cambridge skipped Irish Guards presentation with their Shamrocks denoting St Patrick's Day to go visit her 2 children in Anmer Hall.

Internet was abuzz with criticism as the Duchess chose to spend her time with her two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, rather than honoring a tradition. One post said, "Well she has done it for the last four years - she probably needs a rest!" Another post expressed displeasure and said, "if the Royals start breaking with good traditions then I'm not sure what they're there for."

While Prince William was there to fill in for his wife, the people weren't satisfied as the tradition calls for the woman to conduct the ceremony and it has been done that way since 1901. The tradition began with Queen Alexandra when started handing clover to Infantry Battalion from Hounslow on St Patrick's Day. In 2012, Princess Ann passed on this responsibility to Kate.

According to the rumors, the reason why Kate broke the 115-year-old tradition was her pregnancy and she is supposedly expecting twin babies this time. The royal couple are engaged in their duties as they have been attending events and charities. Although, Kate still tries to take some time off from her royal duties so that she can spend time with her children. As the couple will be traveling to India and Bhutan in April, the duchess wants to spend as much as time as possible with her little ones.

As per the official statement from Kensington Palace, "The Duchess has very much enjoyed the occasions when she has been able to attend, but the Duke is the Colonel of the Regiment and is looking forward to presenting the Irish Guards with their Shamrock.

"The Duchess looks forward to marking St Patrick's Day with the Irish Guards many times in the future."
