George R.R. Martin is well aware of how badly his fans want "Winds of Winter" to be released. Instead of easing his fans by giving updates on the sixth book of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, Martin has refused to talk about his progress, leading many to wonder if the book is even near completion.

With nothing new to go on, here is a recap of what we know so far about the release time for "Winds of Winter":

The most recent comment that Martin has made in regards to whether or not the book is finished dates back to mid-October. Martin wrote that he will not be able to work on the pilot script for his other book, "The Skin Trade," because he is still busy working on the book

Martin wrote on his blog, "Not a Blog" under the post, "Cinemax Orders SKIN TRADE Script," "And no, while I would have loved to write the script and run the show myself myself, that was never really in the cards. I have this book to finish. You know the one."

Prior to this comment, fans assumed that the book was close to being finished because a Polish website, PIESN LODU I OGNIA, had claimed that a translator, Michael Jakuszewski, will be getting the manuscript by the end of the year in order to translate it.

"Michał Jakuszewski confirmed that he was asked by the Zysk publishing house to save his time by the end of the year for translating the Winds of Winter, and although the translator seemed to be a bit skeptical about this news, it is undoubtedly a glimmer of hope for many of us," the website wrote reported by the Independent.

Before this report, Spanish editor Alejo Cuervo, had stated that they were expecting the manuscript via a report from LosSieteReinos. The translated conversation Cuervo had with the radio station, El món a RAC1, revealed that the book is planned or 2016.

Host: And the sixth book will come out...?

Cuervo: It's planned for next year.

H: In English, you mean, but, in Spanish, when would that be?

C: They have promised us that they will give us the manuscript before the release date in English, but it won't be a big difference (between the two dates).

RH: But it will also be during the next year for sure, won't it?

C: Yes. Well, for sure... unless a meteorite falls.

Martin has said previously that the official release date would be announced on his personal blog.
