The Islamic faith is "not concurrent" with the US Constitution, according to Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson, who was firm that he would not support a Muslim President, in an interview with NBC News .

Donald Trump too has talked about it, and when asked a question by an audience in a Town Hall meeting regarding President Obama's birthplace and religion, he too remained ambivalent. The questioner said that Obama was a Muslim and not American. There was a barrage of criticism from the media as well as the audience, pointing out that Trump should have defended Obama like John McCain at a similar meeting.

"No, ma'am. He's a decent family man [and] citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with him on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign's all about. He's not [an Arab]," McCain said in defense of Obama, according to Politico.

However, Trump defended that he "does not have a moral obligation" to defend Obama. Calling himself a Christian, he believes that Obama does not "protect the religious liberty" of his religion. "Christians need support in our country (and around the world), their religious liberty is at stake! Obama has been horrible, I will be great," Trump tweeted.

In his turn, the retired neurosurgeon Carson did agree that Obama was born in the United States, but that he, Carson, would not support a Muslim running for President, though he was fine with a Muslim candidate for Congress, according to hngn.

"Congress is a different story, but it depends on who that Muslim is and what their policies are, just as it depends on what anybody else says, you know," Carson said according to MSN News.
