The state of Oregon has a new claim to fame: it is home to the world's oldest cat.

Oregon Live reports that the cat is 26-years-old and named Corduroy. Corduroy has been officially certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest cat.

Corduroy lives in Sisters, Oregon, and is owned by Ashley Reed Okura, who has had Corduroy since he was a kitten. About 12 years ago Corduroy spent a year living in the nearby Deschutes National Forest until a family friend was able to lure him back home with some food.

Okura credits this experience as being a large part of Corduroy's unexpected and record-breaking longevity because she says that he was "huge" and seemed to be in very good shape after his time in the woods. Corduroy now weighs around 7 pounds and is 29 inches long from his nose to the end of his tail.

Corduroy assumed the title of world's oldest cat after Tiffany Two, the previous record holder, passed away at the age of 27 years, 2 months, and 20 days.

Corduroy came from the same litter as another cat that Okura owned, named Batman. Batman also lived a remarkably long time, passing away only after living for 19 years.

Okura thinks that Corduroy will be able to make it to 30 as he hasn't developed any serious health issues, and still regularly hunts mice for himself, which Okura says are his favorite food.
