Google updated its mobile search application with a series of changes, new features and adopted Lollipop's aesthetic Material Design look for a unified experience across all apps.

Google, the world's largest internet search company, has got its Android mobile users excited about the Lollipop update. To match the overhauled design of the new OS version, the web giant is updating almost all of its apps. In the latest update to its official Search app, Google is bringing Lollipop's Material Design UI along with other great features to make web search even simpler.

As for the visual changes, the updated app features bold colors and smoother animations with simplified layouts for Google Now cars. On some high-end devices such as Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Google is supporting the "Ok Google" function to carry out a quick search even when the phone's screen is off.

Google Search also acts as a reminder. The new update allows the app to smartly identify the potential plans made during an email conversation and remind the user even if it is not finalized. For instance, a Google Now card will appear when a user receives an email about a lunch outing or a dinner. It will prompt the users to add to calendar to ensure the event is not missed.

The voice search can also be used to look up for things in third party apps such as Tumblr.

"With a simple prompt like "Ok Google, search Tumblr for 'Things Organized Neatly'" Google will take you right into the app," the company's product manager for Search, Anantica Singh, explained in the blog. "This now works with a number of apps, so you can also research the best Maui hotels on TripAdvisor, listen to your jam on TuneIn, find a dream home on Trulia, or get tips on how to carve a turkey on YouTube - right from the Google app."

The app is pre-loaded on all Android phones and simply needs a push to update from Google Play Store to take advantage of all new features.
