Jennifer Lopez's recent performance at the Mawazine festival in Rabat on May 29 has sparked furor among officials in Morocco as it is viewed to have violated standards for women and for 'tarnishing women's honor.'

According to BBC, Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane is now facilitating an investigation of 2M public TV network's decision to air the concert which has been watched by 160,000 people in the festival.

Benkirane said that JLo's style of performance contains "disgraceful scenes" and "sexually suggestive" thus airing it in a public network is a form of 'serious delinquency' and should be sanctioned.

The country's local media also supported the Prime Minister's stand by saying that the Booty singer performs "suggestive poses" is "scantily" dressed.

JLo's raunchy performance is said to have violated Morocco's conservative nature with a lot individuals urging the Minister of Communications Mustapha Khalifi for allowing the performance to be aired on TV, The Independent said.

However, Khalifi dismissed pressure from the public and refused to file for resignation.

He also agrees that the songstress performance is indeed "unacceptable and goes against broadcasting law" but never mentioned his part in making the decision to air it. Instead, he wanted a discussion with the ethics committee of the 2M network that aired it.

Aside from government officials, an educational group is also said to be planning to file a lawsuit against the 45-year old performer and her promoter, Sydney Morning Herald reports.

TMZ said that this is not the first time that Jennifer Lopez performs in Morocco. However, this is her first time to appear on TV.

The news source also said that the lawsuit may result for one month to two years imprisonment if found guilty.
