The Voice Season 8 contestant Anthony Riley from Philadelphia is found dead in a basement in an apartment building on Friday.

Sky News said that one of Riley's friends recently revealed that the singer committed suicide leading to his death on Friday.

Upon hearing his death, NBC released an official statement on Saturday expressing condolences for the talented street singer.

"We are sad over the passing of Anthony Riley. We offer our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this very difficult time."

Riley is labelled as the fastest to be picked by the four judges during the blind auditions as judges Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Pharrell Willams pressed their buttons seconds after he sang his first few lines of his version of James Brown's I Got You (I Feel Good).

However, the singer made a voluntary exit during the battle rounds for him to finish a rehab program, CNN revealed.

"At the time, [being on the show] wasn't working for me and I felt like I needed to go, instead of taking on more responsibility than I could handle," he told the Philadelphia Inquirer in March via CNN.

Further, Mail Online said that the Riley's involvement in the competition has provided him with much inspiration but the workload has stressed him out.

"It's stressful; there are a lot of days that can turn into lonely days."

Meanwhile, the show's anchor Carson Daly and other The Voice contestants expressed their sadness on Twitter upon hearing the sad news, Fox8 said.

"Praying for the family and friends of Anthony Riley today. It's a heartbreaking loss," the host posted.

"He'd had his problems recently. But at the heart of all that was a very kind, gentle person," fellow musician Robby Parsons also shared in an earlier interview with the Inquirer.

Anthony Riley's memorial is said to be made public as announced by her sister Halima Miley.

"The city was his family. Everybody knew him, he couldn't walk two steps without someone saying, 'Anthony, how you doing?' The public loved him," she said.
