Microsoft is set to acquire 6Wunderkinder, the Germany-based startup that created and develops Wunderlist, a popular productivity app. The estimated amount of the deal is between USD 100 million and USD 200 million.

The deal shows Microsoft's interest towards increasing mobile presence and covering all bases around productivity software.

Wunderlist is favored by many users and has earned favorable reviews among Android, iOS and Windows Phone users. The app is available for Windows PCs, Windows Phone, Mac, Chromebook, iOS, Android, the Kindle Fire, and the Web. The service has more than 13 million users.

"The acquisition of this market-leading to-do list app known for its simplicity, ease of use and innovative design fits squarely with our ambition to reinvent productivity and help people achieve more across all major platforms and devices-particularly on mobile," . Microsoft's OneNote team wrote in a blog post.

Microsoft said today that customers can expect the app to remain free: "There will be no price changes for Wunderlist Pro or Wunderlist for Business customers and the service will continue to support a wide range of third-party apps and integrated services."

According to the 6Wunderkinder, people have created more than 1 billion to-do items in the app.
