Xiaomi Sells More Than 2 Million Phones In 12 Hours; Sets Guinness Record

Xiaomi sold more than two million smartphones during an event on March 8 and raised total revenue of 2.08 billion yuan (337.6 million) in just 12 hours, making a new Guinness record, according to reports.

The twelve hour 'Mi Fan Festival 2015' was organized across seven countries in Asia yesterday. Apart from 2 million phones, the Chinese company also sold 38,000 Mi TVs as well as 770,000 smart appliances, including the recently announced Mi Smart Scale.

Xiaomi announced on the Twitter handle that it had set a new Guinness World Record for selling 2.11M phones online in 24 hours.

Reportedly, supply bottleneck have hurt company's sales in India which is the biggest after China.

Xiaomi is yet to announce the release its flagship phone, the Mi Note in India, where Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd will start selling its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on Friday.

Xiaomi regularly hosts parties, invites hundreds of (unpaid) fans to launch events, while it maintains an active forum, solicits feedback and pushes out weekly software updates based on interaction with users, TOI noted.

Xiaomi has sold more than 60 million smartphone last year and this year the company expects to cross 100 million.

Smartphones and devices from Xiaomi appeal to budget-conscious customers. As of now, the company is at third position among global smartphone makers.
