Apple to Commence Watch Sales on April 24

Apple unveiled its much-hyped smartwatch on Tuesday and announced availability beginning April 24 this year.

Though Apple did not reveal the watch's tech specifications, some details emerged. Apple claimed that its watch could last 18 hours of typical usage, reports PC World. It was confirmed that users can make calls through the device and can also use the device to read heart rate.

The iWatch features Retina Display and is said be powered by Apple S1 processor, according to CNET. It also offers WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options.

A new iOS update 8.2 features the Watch app which can be used to download apps on the smartwatch when it launches. Users at the demo area revealed that apps are shown as icon bubbles on the device. The screen can be swept to reveal dashboards. The heart rate can be read as a glance.

Apple on Tuesday announced that its smartwatch comes in three variants, Forbes reports. The Sport 38 mm anodized aluminium variant costs $ 349. The bigger 42 mm Sport version costs $ 50 more. The second variant Regular, costs $ 549 and is made of stainless steel alloy and could cost as much as $ 1,049 depending on the bracelet. The Edition variant, made from 18 carat gold will begin selling at $ 10,000 and top at $ 17,000. Pre-orders begin April 10.
