Human Experimentation is rumoured to be the dictating theme of American Horror Story (AHS) Season 5 which is likely to premier this October.

Though makers of the popular anthology series have remained tight-lipped, season 4 is said to have dropped enough clues that indicate season 5 would be based on Operation Top Hat, a 1953 US Army project which involved chemical weapon testing on humans. The clues in season 4 Freak Show include coffee mugs with top hats. A scene with Neil Patrick Harris as the salesman Chester also showed a clue, IB Times reports.

President of FX Channel John Landgraf which airs AHS, a return to present time would be a welcome given that past episodes were timed in the distant past.

Fans eagerly awaiting information about season 5 may be in for multiple surprises and not necessarily pleasant. Lead star Jessica Lange may not reprise her place on the crew next season, Enstarz notes.

Lange is said to star in American Crime Story, another of Ryan Murphy's productions coming summer and fall. Fans may hope that the other lead Sarah Paulson would rein but Paulson too is being cast in American Crime Story. That said, given that AHS Season would end filming before other productions star, the two may reappear.

Landgraf however has left fans guessing.

"Ryan is really, really independent in how he makes these shows and what he does. So I know the setting. I know something about the characters and something about the tone and the time period, but I don't actually know the cast yet," he said, according to Christian Today.
