"Winds of Winter" release date news revealed that George R.R. Martin has admitted that he is still working on the highly-anticipated continuation of his fantasy novel series, "A Song of Ice and Fire." The critically-acclaimed author also talked about the potential future of "Game of Thrones," which dominated at the Emmy Awards 2016.

According to Deadline, GRRM revealed exciting "Winds of Winter" release date news at the Emmys' backstage. Much to fans' dismay, the author is still writing the book. This implies that it would be impossible to have the book available this year. He did admit, though, that writing "TWOW" is one of his top priorities.

"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to 'Game of Thrones,' so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more," Martin said. "At the moment we still have this show to finish and I still have two books to finish so that's all speculation."

"GoT" co-showrunner D.B. Weiss added that the upcoming seasons for the TV show will be "bigger... but it will also be worse but mostly better." This may mean that more beloved characters will be killed off in the seventh and eighth seasons.

In a report by EW, GRRM's U.S. publisher, Random House, have debunked "Winds of Winter" release date speculations. The publication added that Amazon France has put up a listing for the highly-anticipated book for a Mar. 2017 release. However, the publisher insisted that the world will know once the publication date for "TWOW" has been confirmed.

It was previously reported that the popular HBO show, "Game of Thrones," won the award for Outstanding Drama series in this year's Emmys. "GoT" stars Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey were also nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress award.

George R.R. Martin took to his Live Journal blog to congratulate "Game of Thrones" on its domination at the Emmy Awards 2016. Aside from taking home the award for Outstanding Drama series, the series also won the awards for casting, production design, costuming, sound mixing, editing, stunt coordination, special visual effects as well as makeup, both prosthetic and non-prosthetic.
