Wakie alarm app has a new technique of waking up sleepyheads by recruiting strangers to place anonymous calls.

If you are tired of hearing just ringtones on the phone as a wakeup alarm clock, it's time to turn to Wakie, a new mobile app that uses real human interaction to get you out of the bed. The alarm app encourages complete strangers from around the world to wake you up with a phone call. The app requires users to sign up as "Wakies" or "Sleepyheads". As these names suggest, "Wakies" take up the responsibility to call the "Sleepyheads" when the wakeup time arrives.

To add a little spice to the whole concept, users will receive a call from a stranger of similar age and opposite sex. But the conversations, if you ever have one with those lazy zombie responses, will last for just one minute before the call gets disconnected. The numbers are not shared with either party, making these calls completely anonymous.

Wakie also has a Russian version of the app called Budist and the company has been in operations in the U.S. since 2011. It mainly focuses on Russian speakers in the country. But with a $1 million funding, the company has decided to expand its services to other markets, The Next Web reports. Wakie alarm call app is accessible around the world but only for "Wakies." But if you want a wakeup call from the app, then the service is only available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Singapore and Hong Kong.

Registered Wakies can hit the "Wake Someone Up" button within the app to place an anonymous call. But in case no Wakies are around, the app has you covered with an automated voice call. According to the app's description on Play Store, Wakie has 1.5 million users around the world that placed 30 million wake-up calls. So there are more chances of being awakened by a complete stranger if you choose to be woken up using the app.

Wakie is available only for Android and Windows Phone, with an iOS version in the works.
