Rehab is doing Johnny Manziel some good.

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine revealed on Wednesday that the young quarterback is in a "better place" now than he was before seeking out treatment for personal issues. Pettine did not talk about why Manziel voluntarily checked himself into a facility and did not reveal a timetable for his return.

"I did go to visit him last week," Pettine said at the NFL Scouting Combine Wednesday. "I'll keep the details of that private just to respect his privacy and the situation that he's in. ... I just wanted to go visit him and see how he's doing, and let him know that we're proud of him for the decision he made to go in. And, obviously, he has our full support. ... He's in a much better place now than before he went in. He's very determined to come out of it in a much better way."

Manziel, who just finished his second year in the league, has had issues with his personal image even since his college days. He was criticized for partying too much and not caring about his role on the team. Manziel was fined by the team for missing a medical appointment for his injured hamstring at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old then issued an apology for his poor behavior and checked into a treatment facility.

Although Manziel appears to be on the right track, the Browns are still actively looking for a quarterback in free agency.

"That's probably accurate just because you look at the uncertainty of where he [Manziel] is. Just given the small sample size, we just don't know whether or not he is that answer -- there's too much unknown. I'd obviously be scared if we had a game this weekend," Pettine said reported by CBSSports.com.

The Browns are reportedly meeting with quarterback Brian Hoyer's agent this week. Hoyer started 14 games for the Browns last season and finished with 3,326 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. He will become a free agent.

The 2015 league year starts on March 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
