Following intense criticism, NBC News anchor Brian Williams said on Saturday he would be taking himself off the evening newscast for several days due to intense criticism over his claims that he rode in a helicopter that was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq a decade ago.

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams announced on Feb. 7 that he is taking himself off the air for several days. After he "misremembered" a 2003 Iraq war mission, Brian is being called to step down by big journalists.

"In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions," Williams said in a statement posted on NBC News' website.

Williams is the star anchor who has garnered high ratings for NBC. His spot will be filled by Lester Holt, who typically anchors NBC Evening News on weekends.

NBC began their investigation of Brian on Feb. 6, about his false on-air statements that he was riding in a helicopter that got hit by enemy fire during the Iraq War in 2003.

The investigation will involve a fact-checking process about statements Brian made during his reporting.
