Samsung has sent out invitations to its annual launch event called Unpacked for March 1. The company is expected to show off its next flagship Galaxy S6.

The invite hints at a curved device and reads 'What's next.'

"I have no doubt that the announcement is alluding to a curved smartphone. It is no secret that Samsung has patents in the area and has experimented with this in the past," said Marc Einstein, senior industry analyst at Frost & Sullivan, according to CNBC.

If it is indeed a curved smartphone, it wont be the first Samsung has produced. In 2013 the company launched world's first smartphone with curved display - Galaxy Round. Last year it unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge - curved version of the Galaxy Note 4 phablet.

"What we've seen so far with curved displays has been interesting, but not a game changer," said Mellissa Chau, senior research manager for IDC Asia/Pacific.

It's an important time for Samsung to launch a new flagship device as it has seen its lead in the mobile market slide gradually over five quarters of losses in a row.

Recent devices form Samsung have shown off new aesthetics including metal casings and curved screens -- as well as new Tizen software -- which are likely to continue in 2015, CNET notes.
