Apart from introducing a new operating system and bundle of new features/apps, Microsoft announced its foray into virtual reality, shocking everyone. Here are top six announcements that Microsoft made at the recent event:

Windows 10

Microsoft is still working hard to make an operating system that works seamlessly across mobile and desktop. The new operating system Windows 10 is back with the old start menu that will expand to a full-screen view. It features a new Android-style action center that provides access to Wi-Fi options, Bluetooth and a slew of other settings. A new feature called 'Continuum' is designed specifically for convertible devices, allowing to switch almost instantly from a mouse and keyboard to tablet screen.

Desktop on Phone

Windows 10 is for phones too. Microsoft has created a build of the new operating system tailored to devices smaller than 8 inches that will recognize the interface and will look more like the old Windows Phone operating system. As expected the notifications would sync between phone and the computer. Microsoft owned Skype will integrated into the messaging app.

Cortana on Desktop

The personal digital assistant from Microsoft - Cortana, is coming to the PC as well. Cortana will live next to the Start button and will serve as a natural-language interface for Windows 10. Cortana will also be integrated into the Maps app, that will remind you where you parked your car.

New Browser - Project Spartan

Microsoft is replacing the much-maligned browser - Internet Explorer - with a new browser codenamed Project Spartan. The new browser from Microsoft is packed with new features. There's a "note-taking" mode that allows you to draw all over the web page with stylus and add comments via keyboard and save results on OneNote.

84-inch Touch Screen TV

Microsoft also announced an 84-inch 4K screen - Surface Hub - meant for the workplace. The TV is equipped with Cameras, speakers, mics, Bluetooth, NFC and a touchscreen interface for using styluses upon it.

Virtual Reality Headset

In the event, Microsoft announced HoloLens - a see-through visor that overlays holographic imagery over the real world - shocking everyone. This was the most unexpected product announcement. The HoloLens need not to connect with the phones and PCs and has in-built sensors that detects the real world objects and gestures of the user.
