Former Middleweight champion, Jermain Taylor was arrested on Tuesday in Little Rock, Arkansas, in connection with the shooting of his cousin, police said.

Taylor's cousin was shot many times and his condition was serious, Lieutenant Carl Minden, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office spokesman said, according to ESPN.

Taylor was arrested on charges of first-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault. He is being put at Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility, Minden said.

"He was very calm and very cooperative with our investigators," according to Minden.

The cousin was in a serious condition at a hospital, Minden said. The police took action after they received a 911 call from Erica, Taylor's wife, he said.

According to Minden, the cousin and another person visited Taylor's home. An argument started after some time and Taylor took a handgun and shot his cousin. The other person escaped unscathed, he said.

Taylor also cooperated with the police when they went to his home and the police are probing the reason for the shooting, reports  ESPN.

Taylor had won a bronze at the 2000 Olympics. He was also world champion in middleweight category from 2005 to 2007.

He suffered a small brain bleed in 2009 while fighting against Arthur Abraham at the Super Six World Boxing Classic. He was knocked out in the 12thround of the match.

After recovering from the injury, he made a comeback in December 2011 and has won four fights in a row, including three by knockouts.

He is scheduled to fight Sam Solimon for the IBF middleweight title in Biloxi, Mississippi.
