You're looking for a shiny new car. But, before you make the sale, you have to get rid of the old one that's sitting in your garage. Find out the best ways to get rid of your old car, whether it works or not.

If the Car Still Works:

There's nothing technically wrong with your car - you're just looking for an upgrade. If that's the case, you should sell it and make yourself some extra cash. The money from the sale could help you buy your next one or make paying off the insurance fees a lot more manageable.

There are a few ways that you could sell the car. Bring it to a used car lot and take whatever the salesperson offers you. Reach out to private buyers by putting up listings on sites like Kijiji or Craigslist. Or check your social circle. You never know if a friend or coworker is looking for a used car that's in their price range.

Before you do anything, you should prep your car for sale. Running some last-minute maintenance and doing a thorough cleanup are some of the best tips for selling your car that will make sure that you get your money's worth. A run-down or dirty car will encourage the buyer to haggle the price, or worse, reject the offer completely.

If It Doesn't Work Anymore:

Your car does nothing but take up space in your garage right now. You don't think you could afford the repairs to get it back on the road. You would have to spend a fortune and replace just about everything. You might as well get a new, functional vehicle, and declare this old one as junk.

So, what can you do with it? The best solution for your frustrating car problem is to bring it to a car scrap yard in your local area. If you can't physically bring it over, you can arrange to have your car picked up and moved to the scrap yard. They don't need it to work. They need the scrap metal for recycling.

The greatest part about going to a scrap metal recycling facility is that you get paid to get rid of your old junk. You can leave your old car in the yard and get paid for it. Not only are you cleaning out your garage, you're also adding money to your pocket - money that could be put toward your new vehicle. Suddenly, your trash became an absolute treasure.

Do You Need to Get Rid of Your Car?

There are lots of signs that your car is dying and that you need to start planning for a replacement in the near future. Look out for problems like strange smells, odd noises and frequent trips to the mechanic. The evidence is showing you that something is wrong and that your car isn't safe for the road or good for your bank account anymore. You can always upgrade to a nicer car that's proven to be much safer and reliable than what's in your garage.

Getting rid of your old car doesn't have to feel like a complete loss. If you take the right steps, you can strike a great deal and get paid for dumping it.
