It's easier to bear the dark and cold days of winter when we have Christmas and New Year's to look forward to, but after these holidays pass, the long dreary winter months begin. There's ice skating and tobogganing, but the Canadian winter can be gloomy sometimes.

No matter how inhospitable the roads are during snow storms, we still have places to get to. Today's Ford vehicles come equipped with modern technology to traverse winter conditions safely, so you can drive with confidence.

Let's take a closer look at some of the new features in today's Fords which help to make it easy to drive in winter.

Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking

The Ford Escape 2020 comes with Ford Co-Pilot 360 features that make driving safer in any season, even winter. One of these is Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking.

Essentially, the vehicle has scanners searching constantly for pedestrians and other vehicles. If it detects there's something in front of your vehicle, a warning flashes and there's an audible alert sound. Plus, the brakes will precharge so as to be more responsive when you brake, and if there is no action taken and a collision is imminent, the brakes will be applied automatically.

This can really come in handy in the dark days of winter, or when you're driving in a snow storm in reduced visibility. Check out your local Ford dealership to test drive the Ford Escape, as well as a wide range of other Ford vehicles.

Rear View Camera

Being able to see clearly is a basic requirement for safe driving. The Ford Escape has a rear view camera which can keep you safer by giving you a clear view of what's behind you, one that would be impossible to have a clear sightline on otherwise.

Just be sure to keep snow off the camera so there's nothing blocking the lens.

Evasive Steering Assist

This available feature doesn't turn the steering wheel for you, but it provides extra steering support if the warning goes off and it senses you need to go around another vehicle.

This will come in handy when the roads are slippery, if there happens to be a pile up in front of you that you need to avoid.

Auto High-Beam Headlamps

The 2020 Ford Escape has headlamps which can sense when it's dark outside, and when they need to be on. You'll appreciate this feature when the sun goes down earlier and earlier, as you'll always be able to see properly.

Plus, these headlamps can sense oncoming headlamps, so they dim themselves when another vehicle approaches, so as not to blind the driver.

Nothing replaces the need to drive extra safely during winter, and make modifications to your vehicle such as putting on winter tires with more tread. But technology in the latest Fords definitely makes it easier to drive with confidence during the Canadian winter, keeping you, your passengers and everybody on the road safer.
