Despite it being a dishonest thing to do, it's not unheard of a man lying to girlfriend about his whereabouts so he can party longer with his friends. One British man took it to the extreme and texted his girlfriend that he had been kidnapped and that's why he couldn't come and see her.According to Sky News, a 32-year-old claimed he was being held hostage and his "captor" would only release him if a £50 ($82) debt was paid. He was in fact at a house party outside Manchester until the wee hours of the morning.

The woman was afraid for her boyfriend and called police after speaking to his "kidnapper" on the phone and receiving a number of text messages.

Almost seven hours later, police found the man still partying at 1:20am and after being questioned he told them it was all "a wind up".

The investigation into the man's disappearance required officers to sift through CCTV footage and conduct house to house searches which even led to the arrest of a man.

The girlfriend was absolutely beside herself with worry and genuinely concerned that he would come to harm. Rightfully, based on what she knew at the time, the matter was reported to police," said Detective Inspector Jo Clawson from the Greater Manchester Police Department.

"Considerable resources and time then went into finding this man, who it transpires made the entire thing up so he could stay out and party."

"This is without doubt one of the most foolish and irresponsible incidents I have been involved in," he added.
