Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg Rolls Out internet.org App In Colombia, To Offer Free Internet Service

Taking a step further in his internet.org initiative, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a plan to offer free Internet service in Colombia.

Zuckerberg is in Bogota, where he held his first international question-and-answer session today.

At an event earlier today with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, Zuckerberg said customers of local telecommunications operator Tigo will have free access to the Internet.org app, including a group of global and local sites that let users find information on health, education, finance, employment and weather, Bloomberg reported.

Zuckerberg said: "We can help tackle the big barriers that are stopping people from getting on the Internet."

According to recent estimates, about a third of world's population has access to the Web, leaving about 5 billion people who are don't have access to Internet yet.

The 2012 estimate suggest that about 33 percent of the total population of Colombia lives below the poverty line.

During the Q&A, Zuckerberg mentioned company's efforts to reduce cyberbullying on its site by encouraging "social reporting."
