"Legion" is about to air on FX and it seems to be set in a different cinematic universe than X-Men. The series is a first TV live-action for X-Men yet there are not much of the X-Men in it.

"Legion" is a spin-off series of the X-Men but there are not many characters from the X-Men film. The word mutant is not mentioned in the series until halfway through the story. It seems that fans are not going to expect Magneto, Jean Grey or Wolverine in the upcoming series.

"Legion" is a story of David Haller (Dan Stevens). He is a diagnosed schizophrenic and thinks that the delusions he is experiencing can be an indication of him turning into a mutant. Haller is a son of Charles Xavier in the comics and it is unclear as of this time if that is the same in the TV series.

Haller is the mutant Legion in the TV series. He has the ability to absorb other people's personalities. This ability allows him to use the other mutant's powers as his own. When Haller discovers his powers in the mental hospital where he has been treated, he then questions reality.

"Legion" also has other characters that will be working with Haller. In the mental hospital that he is admitted to, Syd Barrett (Rachel Keller) and Lenny Busker (Aubrey Plaza) are also there. From Haller's realization on the powers that he has the story then unfolds for him as to what he really is.

Meanwhile, it is thought that "Legion" may connect to X-Men but not just yet. In fact showrunner Noah Hawley shares on what Legion is about. He notes that the TV series does connect with X-Men and it can. However, he notes that the premiere is not the time to do that.

It seems that as of this time, "Legion" can stand on its own as a series. The show is set to air on Feb. 8 on FX.
